Duffy’s Tavern – Episode 69 – Guests Kate Smith and Ted Collins

Welcome to Duffy’s Tavern — the neighborhood watering hole where the elite meet to eat, Duffy is never around, and Archie is somehow still running the place.

Created by and starring Ed Gardner as Archie, Duffy’s Tavern became one of radio’s great situation comedies, running through the 1940s and into the early 1950s. Archie is a fast-talking, wildly confident schemer whose mangled vocabulary, questionable business ideas, romantic ambitions, and conversations with the Tavern’s colorful regulars inevitably lead to trouble. The series also welcomed an extraordinary parade of celebrity guest stars from the worlds of radio, music, stage, and motion pictures.

At the center of it all is the Tavern itself — a fictional New York gathering place filled with misunderstandings, get-rich-quick schemes, verbal disasters, and some of the most memorable character comedy of the Golden Age of Radio.

Pull up a chair and join Archie and the gang as B4TV brings Duffy’s Tavern back to the air as part of our celebration of the Golden Age of Radio.
